Top Five Mistakes Most MBA Aspirants Make during their MBA Journey

Top Five Mistakes Most MBA Aspirants Make during their MBA Journey

Having interacted with thousands of learners pursuing post graduation., I have observed five common mistakes most of the students tend to make during their MBA journey.

1. Feeling - Maybe I’m not as smart as others…” The moment self-doubt enters, participation takes an exit. Classrooms are filled with people from different backgrounds—engineers, commerce grads, freshers, experienced professionals. Comparison becomes natural… but harmful.

The truth?
You are not here to compete.
You are here to build.
Speak. Ask. Contribute.
You don’t need to be the best—you need to be present.

2. Taking academics lightly- “I’m into marketing… why attend HR?” “I’ll manage assignments later…”

This mindset quietly costs more than you think.
- Every subject builds thinking.
- Every lecture adds perspective.

MBA is not about subjects—it’s about shaping how you think.

3. Sitting on the sidelines
Events, competitions, industry sessions, committees…

“I’ll participate later. Let others do it.”
And just like that… opportunities pass.

M-school is a playground of exposure.
The more you engage, the more you evolve.

4. Staying silent during conflicts-
Group projects. Team disagreements. Different opinions. Many students choose silence over expression.
But leadership begins here.
Putting your POV respectfully is a skill.
Avoiding it is a missed learning.

5. Not networking enough-
You attend sessions… but don’t connect.
You meet people… but don’t follow up.
MBA is as much about who you know
as it is about what you know.

Your network often becomes your net worth.

If you are in your MBA journey right now, remember this:
It’s not just about placements.
It’s about becoming the person ready for those placements.

Curious to know - Which of these do you see most commonly around you (or within yourself)?
