Holi, Colours, and the Book That Quietly Changed My Life
Holi, the festival of colours, always brings with it laughter, nostalgia, and the unmistakable scent of spring in the air.
But for me, it also awakens the memory of a different kind of colour — one that did not come from gulal, but from a book.
A book that arrived in my life years ago and stayed.
The 2002 release of my favourite author — Come On! Get Set Go! — felt less like something to read and more like something to live.
Over time, I realised that its message mirrors the true spirit of Holi in the most beautiful way.
Because if you really think about it, Holi is not just about throwing colours outside.
It is about activating colours within.
And that is exactly what Get Set Go urges us to do — move from intention to action, from hesitation to courage, from waiting to living.
The Inner Palette
#Yellow — Awareness & Positivity
Every meaningful journey begins with awareness. Not ambition, not speed — awareness.
Recognising where we stand.
Understanding what holds us back.
Seeing clearly what we can become.
Yellow feels like that inner sunrise — the moment confusion gives way to clarity. The book gently nudges us to pause, observe, and become conscious participants in our own lives instead of drifting through them.
#Green — Growth & Renewal
Real change is rarely dramatic. It is patient, repetitive, and often invisible in the beginning.
Green represents the quiet discipline of daily improvement — learning, unlearning, trying again, adjusting, evolving. Get Set Go does not glorify overnight success; it celebrates consistent progress.
Just like nature renews itself season after season, we too are allowed to begin again.
#Pink — Compassion & Relationships
Achievement without humanity feels hollow.
One of the most powerful reminders from the book is that kindness, empathy, and emotional intelligence are not optional add-ons to success — they are its foundation. Pink symbolises warmth, connection, and the strength that comes from caring deeply without becoming fragile.
In a world obsessed with performance, compassion remains quietly revolutionary.
#Blue — Discipline & Stability
Dreams inspire, but discipline delivers.
Blue embodies calm determination — the ability to show up even when motivation fluctuates. It is structure without rigidity, commitment without drama. The steady rhythm that turns plans into outcomes.
If awareness is the beginning, discipline is the bridge between who we are and who we wish to become.
#Red — Courage & Action
Nothing changes until we act.
Red is the colour of movement — the decision to apply, to speak, to begin, to risk discomfort for the sake of growth. It is the refusal to remain stuck in analysis, fear, or perfect timing.
Courage rarely announces itself loudly. Sometimes it is simply doing the next right thing despite uncertainty.
#White — Purpose & Integrity
Before Holi colours touch the skin, there is white — simple, unadorned, authentic.
White represents clarity of intent, values, and purpose. It reminds us that all growth must stand on a foundation of integrity. Without this base, colours may impress for a while, but they will not endure.
Authenticity is not the absence of ambition; it is the alignment of ambition with values.
Why the Message Still Feels Timeless
Perhaps the enduring power of Get Set Go lies in what it does not promise.
It does not promise instant transformation.
It does not sell shortcuts.
It does not glorify dramatic reinvention.
Instead, it invites consistent movement.
One step.
One choice.
One action at a time.
Much like Holi itself — no single splash colours the day. It is the accumulation of moments, laughter, and shared joy that transforms everything.
Beyond the Festival
As years pass, festivals change shape. The noise softens. The crowds shrink. The celebrations become more intentional.
But some colours deepen.
Gratitude for mentors.
Respect for lessons that arrive quietly.
Recognition of how certain books, people, and experiences become part of our internal compass.
This Holi, I find myself grateful not just for colours that brighten the day, but for the ones that continue to guide life long after they fade from the skin.
Because the most powerful colour is not the one someone throws on you —
it is the one you choose to live by.
#Gratitude
