The Story of Day and Night…
The Story of Day and Night…
There are stories that don’t just stay as stories…
They quietly hold a mirror to our choices, our biases, and our understanding of life.
This is one such story.
A lady once gave birth to twin girls.
One was fair as snow, glowing in a way that instantly drew admiration.
The other was dark as the night—deep, calm, and quietly beautiful in her own way.
As they grew, the world around them began to respond— not with balance, but with bias. Neighbours, friends, and even acquaintances showed a clear preference.
The fair child was admired, appreciated, and praised. Her presence was celebrated.
The other child, however, was often overlooked. Sometimes ignored.
Sometimes mocked… for something she had no control over—her skin.
Over time, names were given.
The fair one became Day. And the other… was labelled Night.
The Silent Hurt We Often Miss
Night did not protest loudly. She did not demand attention. She did not question the unfairness
She simply… absorbed it.
But silence does not mean absence of pain. Every ignored moment, every mocking glance, every subtle comparison— they began to settle within her.
She would often cry when she was alone.
Not because she lacked strength…
but because she carried more than she was seen for.
And one day, that quiet pain reached a point of no return.
Without any announcement, without any noise,
Night left.
When Absence Becomes Awareness
At first, nobody worried.
“She will come back…” they thought.
But days passed. Then weeks.
And Night did not return.
Now, the world had only Day— bright, active, visible…24×7.
Initially, it felt productive.
More time. More work. More movement.
But slowly, something began to break.
There was no pause.
No stillness.
No space to breathe.
No sleep.
No calm.
No soothing moonlight to tell tired hearts,
“You can rest now.”
And that’s when people began to realise—
something was deeply missing.
The Truth About Balance
It wasn’t just Night that was gone.
It was balance.
It was rest.
It was healing.
It was quiet reflection.
Day alone, no matter how bright or admired, was never meant to exist in isolation.
Life was designed in rhythm—
light and dark, action and pause, noise and silence.
People longed for Night to return.
Because only together could Day and Night complete the cycle of life—
every date, every month, every year.
The Lesson We Often Learn Late
Perhaps this story is not just about Day and Night.
It is about us.
About how easily we admire what is visible, and overlook what is silent.
About how quickly we celebrate brightness, and undervalue depth.
And about how often we realise the importance of something… only after it is gone.
Because the truth is simple, yet profound:
Without a smile, we don’t realise the value of a tear.
Without a tear, we don’t value a smile.
And without both, life falls out of sync.
A Gentle Reflection…
What we overlook… may be what we need the most. And what we dismiss as “less”…
may actually be what completes us.
