Developmental Tools : Your Transfer- Able

Being A Transfer Learner...

This write up is an inspiration form Dr. Swati Lodha's November'22 release, "360 Degree Excellence". In her book, she beautifully narrated the need to be a transfer learner and its essence in mapping up with the P- pods of human life.

Transfer Learner essentially entails switching the P2P roles, for instance - student to work life & further on which involves tuning back & forth  & at times by the clock. This definitely requires skills in alignment.

Hence need for having various skills is crucial to accomplish our desired goals across walks of life.

Skills are a must have - be it work life, study life or personal life.

I have heard many post graduate students say,' I am a beginner, I dont have any skill. They wont select me for the job'.

Well, skills are transferable!

Yes they are!

They are called transferable skills. By this I mean, that the skills that we acquire while pursuing any activity during our routines - employment, projects, voluntary work, hobbies or sports can be applied at a later stage in newer situations i.e they can be transferred.

Some of the popular transferable skills include - self management., communication, problem solving, time management, being proactive and team work.

Lets now look at the #transferableskills cycle.

Skill Acquisition: A skill acquired through the routine activity performed. For example - a group project in college, we learn team work, time management and problem solving.

Skill Progression: The acquired skill is identified and further developed to be able to put to use ahead. It could be in form of a professional training or doing more of such activities to polish up the skill.

Skill Match: While applying for a job role, I read the job descriptions and specifications carefully, shape up my resume accordingly as I now know that I have the said skills sets.

Then I decide and act on it - Apply, Prep Up and Step Up!

Skill Transfer: I will now apply the skills at my work, ie the new situation

Pro-Tip: #Reflect and #Record all the transferable skills you identify into your log book because you will eventually realise that skill transfer is again a journey & not a destination. So be the #STAR
